HEMINGWAY ANDREW HEMINGWAY
Born in Yorkshire in 1955, where he still lives and works,
Andrew Hemingway attended Barnsley School of Art
and took his degree in Fine Art and the History of Art at
Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, London.
He has studied in Italy and Norway and visits Holland regularly;
the Dutch Old Masters, he freely acknowledges, have been an
influence on his own painting.
He has taught painting for many years and is a member of
the faculty at University College London.
His work can be found in many private collections worldwide:
New York, Australia, South Africa, Canada, San Francisco,
London, Hamburg, Japan and Holland.
“… when
you see the paintings, it is not the detail which strikes you
first; that is an afterthought. Rather it is the complete encounter,
based on experiential knowledge, which touches the senses. And
that is how it should be.”
